1. SoundCheck™ Performance Assessment

SoundCheck™, powered by MatchMySound™, provides instant ratings and feedback for pitch, rhythm, and intonation, and is available for use with any Noteflight score. With SoundCheck your students will receive numerical ratings with red-yellow-green assessment for both pitch and rhythm, plus individual feedback messages for intonation and wrong notes. SoundCheck has many adaptable features including the ability to record along with a metronome, the full score audio, or have SoundCheck follow you. You can also customize tuning, tempo adjustment, hiding the cursor, full-screen mode, locked and unlocked mode for assessments, and much more. Recently, SoundCheck also added video recording to allow even more accurate feedback.

2. Integrate with Google Classroom or LMS

You can use Noteflight Learn on its own or with your own Learning Management System. Schools can seamlessly integrate with Google Classroom as well as other LMSs that use the Basic LTI standard, including: Canvas, Schoology, PowerSchool, Moodle, and Blackboard. Noteflight Learn will also integrate with your MusicFirst Classroom subscription.

With Google Classroom, all of your individual classes, schools, or entire districts can integrate with a single Noteflight Learn site. Your Google Classroom classes are mirrored as Noteflight Learn Groups which makes sharing scores and assignments easy and quick. Teachers can easily invite other teachers to individually manage their own classes, making district-wide implementations a breeze. Noteflight can create assignments in Google Classroom and students can turn in or mark as done from their Noteflight score.

If you’d like to integrate with your LMS, there is no need to set up or manage student usernames or passwords. Noteflight scores can appear as an integrated part of each assignment within the LMS or open in a separate tab or window. Plus, an integrated Noteflight Learn site automatically notifies the LMS grade book when a student finishes an assignment.

3. Essential Elements Methods

Hal Leonard Essential Elements Method Books for Band and Strings can also be used in Noteflight Learn. The Essential Elements exercise scores can be used for performance assessment with SoundCheck, as well as adapted for composition and arranging assignments. Teachers have full access to the content automatically while students can unlock their method book content with the activation code from the book.

4. Syncing YouTube and Media

With Noteflight Learn you can also sync a score to a YouTube, or SoundCloud link. This helps to create engaging assignments for students.

Simply use the “Sync Audio” option with any Noteflight score and copy-paste your YouTube or SoundCloud link. Once the video is loaded and playing, you can press the “m” key or click the “Measure” button to mark each point in the track where a bar line in your score occurs. You can drag, fine-tune, remove markers, adjust the zoom, and easily sync your score in just a few minutes!

5. Creating Assignments and Giving Feedback

Creating, sharing, and providing feedback on assignments is easy with Noteflight Learn. Activity templates allow any score to instantly become an assignment, providing a unique copy automatically created for each student. There is no need to rename, upload, or email files. You can also color-code notes that are interesting or need to be changed, leave comments in Score Details, create annotations directly in the score, or record your own demos or audio responses in an additional staff line so that your student can listen to your example. Students and teachers can continue editing and commenting on the assignment, and can even choose to share their copy back to the site, group, or to an individual.

6. Audio Recording

Noteflight Learn offers a recording feature allowing users to record live audio directly into a musical score. This feature is ideal for teachers assigning performance assessments and rehearsal tracks.

Students can simply use their computer microphones or a plug-in mic to record their playing or singing. The setup process will show your students how to adjust the microphone volume and calibrate their computer’s input and output audio timing.

“Record Mode” is a simple interface to record, listen to, and mix the audio of your score. All score editing, including layout, view, and transposition, is also still available to your students. Using the Track Panel and Mixer Panel in Record Mode, you can customize your recording and play-along experience by selecting which parts to hear and choosing either Noteflight instrument or recorded audio playback.

Students can also share a score and have a different user record each part, record the vocal line of a song so other users can hear the lyrics, or practice improvisation with a recorded rhythm section. Teachers can record a demo and share the score with students, allowing them to record along with a model and compare their recording with the teachers, as well as have students record their parts for performance assessments.

7. Access Thousands of Scores

All Noteflight Learn members have access to thousands of Hal Leonard scores. The included library features scores for melodies, chorales, scales, sight reading, theory exercises, composition exercises, and more.

Schools can also purchase additional libraries for access to even more repertoire. Teachers and students can access digital scores of the most popular repertoire for Band, Choir, Orchestra, Piano, Guitar and Pop Ensemble. These digital scores can be used and adapted for play-along, recorded assessments, score study, composition assignments, and more!

Students can edit all scores to work for any instrument and in any key giving them the opportunity to learn how to transpose to different key signatures.

Using Noteflight Learn with digital content libraries opens up a world of possibilities for teaching and learning music. Have your students learn their parts by singing or playing along with a score, assess performance using SoundCheck, or use Noteflight live audio recording for performance assessments.

Have your students use digital scores for score study so they understand how their part relates to other musical lines. Teachers can create composition assignments by having students rearrange, reharmonize, or add parts to a score. Students can also freely explore libraries for sight reading practice.
