I've been using my Quest 2 for years without a problem. Today, when I put on my headset, I got the message to enter an 8 character code at meta.com/device, which I did on my desktop. I got the happy message: "You may close this window and return to your headset." Yet, awaiting me in the headset was the same message to use a now different 8 character code. After doing this for 4 or 5 rounds, I went to my Oculus Meta iPhone app. The app told me to put on my headset to get a 5 digit code. But when I put on the headset, I got the same old message with a new 8 character code.

With the help ofsupport@oculusvr.comthe problem was SOLVED. It took some handholding with chat support. First, we did some resetting of passwords, editing user name, email, along with entering the 8 character code -- all in INCOGNITO mode. INCOGNITO was the key, I believe. Then I did a factory reset.

Yes, the factory reset worked!
(I'm not sure what the problem was, but I know that my phone app had switched from my oculus account to my facebook account. We straightened that out first.)

After I did the factory reset, all my purchased apps were still in my account, on my phone and in the library of apps in my headset/Home Screen. The difference is that you need to re-install each app when you want to use it.
if the apps don’t show up, don’t panic. It just means Meta has created an additional (unwanted) account for you and you need to log out then log back in with the account you used to purchase the apps.
